DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURE: CODE AND GUIDELINES FOR SMALL BUSINESS
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of the disciplinary code is to provide for the handling misconduct in the workplace. Misconduct can be described as breaking any rule or a standard, which is known to an employee, or which he/she reasonable could have been expected to know. The code serves as a guideline to provide for the fair and consistent handling of discipline in the workplace. The aim of discipline is to correct unacceptable behaviour and a progressive approach is adopted. Not all types of misconduct are covered in this code, however, this does not prevent the employer from taking disciplinary action with regard to such misconduct. The code is not aimed at correcting poor work performance.
